Air Pollution kills over 1.2 million People in China

A data analysis shows that air pollution has killed more than 1.2 million people in China in 2010.

The study conducted by the University of Washington, World Health Organization and Health Effects Institute also found that air pollution has resulted in the death of 3.2 million people worldwide in 2010.

Robert O’Keefe, the vice president of the Health Effects Institute, said that researchers of the study decided to break down numbers presented in the study for specific nations including China and India.

“We have been rolling out the India- and China-specific numbers, as they speak more directly to national leaders than regional numbers,” O’Keefe further argued.

The study also indicated that outdoor air pollution, the sixth most common killer in South Asia, has claimed the lives of at least 620,000 people in India.
