The United States will transfer the Bagram Prison by Monday, the Pentagon has announced after a phone conversation between Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel.
The detention facility is a US-run prison located next to the Bagram airfield in Parwan province of Afghanistan.
“Secretary Hagel spoke with President Karzai about an agreement reached to transfer the detention facility in Parwan to the sovereign control of Afghanistan on Monday,” Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said.
The agreement follows an intensified round of discussions this week between US and Afghan officials, he said in a statement.
