Blasts Rocked Turkish Capital; Ankara

A bomb attack has targeted the Turkish Justice Ministry, and two other bombings in Ankara have hit the headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the headquarters of the Turkish Telecommunications Workers’ Union.

On Tuesday, unidentified assailants threw two hand grenades at the building of the Justice Ministry, and a group of gunmen launched an attack on the AKP headquarters using a light anti-tank weapon, Today’s Zaman reported.

Two people were slightly wounded in the bomb explosion in front of the ministry bulding. Police and ambulances were immediately dispatched to the site. Security forces soon sealed off the area to conduct an investigation.

Police have reportedly detained two men on suspicion of being involved in the attack on the ministry.

However, Interior Minister Muammer Guler denied media reports, saying that nobody was detained over the attack.

In a statement, Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin strongly condemned the assault.

Meanwhile, there were no casualties in the attack on the AKP headquarters, which caused only material damage to the facade of the building.

Earlier in the day, four people were injured in another bomb explosion at the headquarters of the Turkish Telecommunications Workers’ Union in Ankara.
