Three dead in suicide attack at Pakistan court

Suspected suicide bombers attacked a judicial compound in the Pakistani city of Peshawar on Monday, killed three people, wounded more than twenty people and took hostages, officials said.

Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar said 10 gunmen had made their way into the complex and were exchanging fire with security forces in an apparent bid to break into a jail holding their comrades.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the operation. Police forces sealed off roads around the complex. Taliban militants, who are close to al Qaeda, are fighting to topple Pakistan’s government and impose their radical beliefs. They have targeted the military, security forces and civilians.
